“Remember when you turned seven?” said Bailey. “How could I forget the Throw-Out Blowout?” said April.
“We helped out at your garage sales and donated the money to charity. And when you turned eight...”
“It was a Tree Spree,” finished April. “We planted maples.” “Last year, we all collected newspapers to recycle,” said Bailey. “The Print Sprint.” April groaned.
Bailey giggled. “I thought it was fun.”
Later that night, as April loaded the dishwasher, she said, “I’d like to plan my own party this year.”
“Sure,” said Mom. “We could have a Composts Carnival.” “Great idea!” said Dad.
April cleared her throat. “I’d like to go to Maze Craze instead.” “Really?” said Dad, surprised.
“I guess we could do that. Dad and I can send you kids there.” said Mom.
April couldn’t wait for her birthday! She and her friends would have so much fun. And they wouldn’t have to think one bit about the earth.
At school the next day, April told her friends. “I’m having my birthday party at Maze Craze!” “You are?” said Josie. “But we always do something earthy on your birthday.” “Remember that salamander we found two years ago?” said Tyler. “Yeah,” said April. “This year, we’re not even going outside.”
“Oh!” said Tyler.
The following weekend, everyone gathered in the parking lot outside of Maze Craze. “Thanks for coming,” said April. “I’ve been so excited about my party. No shovels.
No collecting recyclables. Nothing earthy about it.” She shifted her feet. “Then I got here this
morning and saw this parking lot.”
April’s friends glanced around. Plastic bottles bounced across the ground. Newspapers and fast-food sacks blocked the storm drain. Shopping bags rustled in the trees.

If you ask me whether you should say yes to walk your neighbor’s dog, my answer would be a definite “Yes”,as long you do one thing I didn’t do when I helped out with my neighbor’s dog.
Here’s what I meant. You don’t need to ask your neighbor lots of questions about that particular dog, but just be patient to ask one very important question. Here is why.
Mrs. Gonzales and her adorable dog Rascal, live at the end of my street. My friend Ollie and I have played with Rascal since he was a puppy, so when Mrs. Gonzales asked if we’d like to take him to the park once in a while, we can’t wait to says, “When can we start?” “How about this Saturday at 3: 00?”she suggested.
When Saturday rolled around, Ollie and I were there to pick up Rascal at 3: 00 on time. “Rascal will be so happy to play in the park with you! “ Mrs Gonzales said. “If I’m still out grocery shopping when you return, just let yourselves in with this spare key. I’ll be home a little while later.”
“Also, why do you think I named him Rascal? If there’s trouble, such as puddles, this guy is guaranteed to find it. And also the commands that you should .....” When we realized that Mrs Gonzales had lots of “alsos”, we interrupted her and ran away in the blink of an eye.
Not long after we arrived at the park, Rascal found a giant puddle and jumped into it and rolled around until every square inch of his furry body was dripping with mud. “Ugh! silly puppy, you’re the muddiest dog in the universes!” I said. Ollie said we should take him back home so he can get washed up.
But when we got to Mrs. Gonzales’s house, she didn’t answer the doorbell. “ She must still be out grocery shopping, “ I said. “ How about we use the garden tube to clean him? “ Ollie suggested. “ Good idea!” I said, putting Mrs. Gonzales’s key into the lock.”I’ll go inside and get a towel to dry him off.”
Paragraph 1:
But the second I opened the door, Rascal raced inside the house.

This was it. Today was the day.
Finally, she would be able to see her again.
It’d been five long years. Her university days now felt like a lifetime ago. When Jennifer thought back to it, she didn’t like the girl she had been then, but when she thought about Yui Fay, that discomfort disappeared and her whole life lit up.
She couldn’t be more excited. She kept imagining their meeting – how they would run towards each other, hugging and talking of the old times. As she imagined, happiness spread through her body.
It was time to get dressed. As she was struggling about what to wear, she spotted a red summer dress, which she wore that night in Barcelona. She would never forget that night five years before. After a hard week at university, Yui Fay and she spontaneously
(心血来潮地) bought bus tickets to Barcelona. They slept on the bus and then spent the
whole day exploring the city. In the evening, they met these fun young guys and spent the whole night singing and dancing. Every day with Yui Fay was fun.
After university Yui Fay went back to China where she took over her family’s business, while Jennifer took the job in an office. They promised to keep in contact. But then life happened. The occasional calls faded with time and they had not talked for over two years. Yet, of all her friends, Yui Fay was still the one she felt the closest to. She knew all her fears, dreams, and her wildest stories. She knew that if something happened, Yui Fay would be there for her no matter what. And vice versa. Some friendships just survive the passage of time.
Yet the idea of meeting her was also terrifying. What if…? The idea was too hard to put into
words. What if the person she was so fond of was no longer? What if this dinner turned out to be nothing more than a meeting between two boring businesswomen?
At that moment, her cellphone rang. 注意:

The spot of red was what first caught Randy Heiss’s attention. He was hiking the remote expanse of land behind his ranch (大牧场) in Patagonia, Arizona, a town near the U.S.-Mexico border, and covered the grass was a balloon—or at least the remains of one. Heiss walked toward it with his dog, Feliz, thinking he should pick up the latex (乳胶) pieces and throw them away.
That’s when he noticed the balloon’s string was attached to a piece of paper.
“Dayami,” it read on one side, in a child’s writing. A hand-drawn bow accompanied the word. Heiss turned the paper over quickly. It was a numbered list, all in Spanish. “My Spanish isn’t
very good, but I could see it was a Christmas list,” he said.
Heiss was charmed. He thought that a child had tried to send Santa Claus a Christmas wish list by balloon, something he used to do himself when he was a kid. Nobody had ever returned the letters Heiss had sent into the air, but he wondered whether he couldn’t find the child who had sent this one.
It would be difficult, but Heiss knew about 20 miles to the southwest, just across the border, was the city of Nogales, Mexico, with a population of about a quarter million. “Based on the prevailing wind (盛行风), I was pretty sure that’s where it came from,” he said.
Heiss brought the note home to his wife, who is fluent in Spanish and helped him translate the list. They determined that Dayami, probably a girl, had asked for a doll, a dollhouse, clothes, and art supplies among other things.
Heiss then posted about his request on the Internet, attaching photos, hoping some of his friends in Nogales might know the girl’s family.
A few days passed with no leads; Heiss worried that time was running out before Christmas. Therefore, he decided to send a private message to Radio XENY, an AM radio station based in Nogales if they could help.

Since the age of three, Chelsie Hill had dreamed of becoming a dancer. “The only thing that I loved was dance,” she told the press. That ambition nearly ended one night in 2010. Hill, then a 17-year-old high school senior in Pacific Grove, California, was in a car accident that put her in the hospital for 51 days and left her paralyzed (使瘫痪) from the waist down. Most people would be frustrated and quit any hope of a dancing career. But for Hill, it was just the beginning.
Far from being an obstacle, her wheelchair encouraged her. “I wanted to prove to my community—and to myself—that I was still ‘normal’,” she said. “Whatever normal meant.” Normal for her meant dancing, so Hill did it in her wheelchair right alongside her non-disabled high school dance team. “Half of my body was taken away from me, and I have to move it with my hands,” Hill said. “It definitely took a lot of learning and patience.”
After graduation, Hill wanted to expand her dance network to include women like her. She met people online who had suffered various spinal cord (脊髓) injuries and shared her determination, then invited them to dance with her. “It was such an amazing experience.” Hoping to reach more people in a larger city, Hill moved to Los Angeles in 2014 and formed a team of dancers with disabilities she calls the Rollettes. “I want to break down the stereotype (偏见) of wheelchair users and show that dance is dance, whether you’re walking or you’re rolling,” she said.
Dancing on wheels, the Rollettes discovered, can be just as fast-paced, artful, and fulfilling as the foot-based variety. It’s so powerful to have teammates in their life and helps them to draw out their potential capacities. In disabled dance competitions around the country, the six-member team is having fun, and as the audiences’ excited reactions indicate, the fun can influence others easily, which is really amazing. 续写要求:

“What a mess!” April frowned. Though she had been longing for a non-Earth Day birthday, it was difficult to turn a blind eye to such a mess. She turned around to her friends, “How about picking the trash first?” Her proposal was quickly approved by others and soon they were in business. April’s mum grabbed some gloves from the trunk while her dad managed to remove those shopping bags in the trees. With the bags, April and Bailey collected scattered bottles. By the drain, Josie and Tyler made great efforts to clear the blockage. Many hands make light work. In a short while, three bags were filled with cans and newspapers to recycle.
Para 2:
April looked at the collected rubbish and smiled. Then she looked up at her friends. Their neat clothes for the birthday party were soaked with sweat, but their faces glowed with satisfaction. It felt so good to do something for the earth. “Happy Earth Day, everyone,” said April. “Now we are ready for Maze Craze.” “Happy Birthday, April!” shouted her friends. “I’m so lucky to have been born on Earth Day! ” (“Wow, another earthy birthday,” )April thought to herself. “A Composts Carnival may be a good idea for next year.”

But the second I opened the door, Rascal raced inside the house. He started moving around in the living room. “Stop!” I ordered. But instead of stopping, he jumped up on the couches. “No, Rascal!” Ollieshouted. “Sit!” But Rascal didn’t sit. He rolled all over the couch. “This dogis not good at following commands,” said Ollie, frustrated. It turned out hewas right. Rascal didn’t pay any attention to our words. Luckily for us, weheard a car coming. It must be Mrs. Gonzales.
Mrs. Gonzales came in with her groceries. When she saw her muddy puppy and muddy carpet and muddy couch, that picture left her speechless. “We’re so sorry! He ignored our commands,” Ollieand I explain. Hearing the words, Gonzales burst out laughing. “I should havemade sure you knew which commands he responds to before leaving you alone withhim.” It turned out we should have told Rascal to “stay” before we opened thedoor. And instead of telling him to”sit”, we should have said “off !” It took awhile, but we all worked together to get the mud off everyone and everything. And now when we take Rascal for walks, Ollie and I use all the right commandsand stay very, very far away from puddles.

Paragraph 1:
Jennifer took up her phone and looked at the screen. It was Yui Fay. She said that she would not be able to come and meet her and asked for a rain check. Jennifer was shocked and disappointed. After all, she’d been waiting for this moment for ages. Sad though she was, she had no choice but to agree. Having hung up the phone, she aimlessly wondered on the street and ended up walking into the appointed restaurant. The menu was filled with her favorite dishes yet she had little appetite for anything. She was so sad that she was not aware of what would surprise her next.
Paragraph 2:
Just then, someone was coming towards Jennifer. She delicately patted Jennifer on one side of her shoulder, slipped to the other side and said, “Is the seat taken?” Jennifer looked up and saw that naughty, wild and adventurous face that had been carved into her brain. “Yui Fay!” Jennifer shouted out excitedly. “Why are you here?” Yui Fay smilingly explained that she had followed her the whole time to give her a big surprise. The rest of the day was great joy. It turned out that they didn’t change a bit, neither did their friendship.

Paragraph 1:
To his surprise, someone from the station called him back right away. Heiss’s wife helped explain the situation to Radio XENY host, who talked on the air about the quest to find Dayami and posted it on the station’s website. The next morning, Heiss awoke to another message from Radio XENY: They had located Dayami, an eight-year-old girl, and her family, who indeed lived in Nogales. Would they be willing to arrange a get-together at the radio station?
Paragraph 2:
They bought just about everything on Dayami’s list. They also bought a few other toys for good measure. Then the Heisses drove for 45 minutes, crossing the border into Nogales. They arrived at the Radio XENY offices with presents and finally met her. Her parents explained to the Heisses that Dayami had been writing a letter containing her Christmas list to Santa and sending it by balloon for years, but this was the first time anyone had found the note. “It was a beautiful, beautiful experience,” Heiss said. He paused. “Quite healing for us,” he added.

Paragraph 1:
Hill has attained what many of us never will: her childhood dream. She’s a dancer now and has founded the Rollettes, a significant dancing team. She never stops living her life because of her injury. Every year she holds a dance camp for wheelchair users of all ages and abilities to help them build self-confidence, which has attracted hundreds of participants from many countries by now.
Paragraph 2:
For many disabled, it is the first time they’ve felt they belonged. One of them put it as the most powerful thing when she rolled into a room and everyone was at eye level. Still one said working with Chelsie Hill challenged her to be more independent and optimistic. Another one told the press that being part of the Rollettes team had given her the courage to get behind the wheel of a car. Actually, being a member of the Rollettes, they all benefit a lot and are all living a confident and enjoyable life.
