实习日志 (Diary 1)

May 17 Monday Cloudy The moment we get off the train, we go to the Li River by bus. It is a cloudy day. This is our first day in Yangshuo. We view the Li River by boat. Although we are very tired, we are happy. Because the scenery of Li River is beautiful and wonderful. I view the inverted images of green peaks-view the clouds and mist covering the hills. The chain of mountains is gleaming and drifting clouds are moving among the miraculous peaks. Hanyu, a famous poet in Tang Dynasty, vividly described the enchanting beauty of the Li River in his poem: “The River looks like a blue silk ribbon, and the mountains resemble emerald hairpins”. The Li River is famous for its unique beauty of four characteristics: verdant mountains, crystal-clear water, mysterious caves, and exquisite rocks. The Li River’s charm varies with every change of light. I see nine horses in the hill. Because they like horses as if they are sculpted by people. Sitting in the boat, I stretch out my hand to play with water from the boat of windows. The water is very clear and cool. I remember a song, “Let’s swing our oars, and shove the wave, the cool wind blows us head-on.” It recalls my childhood .In a word, the scenery of the Li River is fantastic. When you view the scenery by boat, you will feel very comfortable and free. 2

May 18 Tuesday Sun This is our second day in Yangshuo. In the morning, some people go to the Big Banyan Tree by bike; the others go there by bus. When we get there, we see the Big Banyan Tree over the river. It is said that the banyan was planted in the Jin Dynasty and is famous for its age and towing beauty. We across the river by rift. While we look closely we see that it has beautiful twisted roots and gnarled branches. Its crown is round with an exuberant growth of branches and leaves. 3

Then, we have lunch in the village. In the afternoon, we climb the Moon Hill. The west of the highway is a limestone pinnacle with a moon-shaped hole penetrating the hill. Hence the name Moon Hill. Moon Hill which is know as “The charming hill under heaven,” Fairyland Hill and Magic Hill”. There is a big and round hole penetrating through top of the Moon Hill from north to south. It looks just like a full moon. We can climb to the top of hill by a small path which is made up of about 800 stairs paved in marble. Viewed from different places, the moon takes on different shapes, sometimes full moon, sometimes half-moon and sometimes crescent, forming a marvelous spectacle in Yangshuo. It's very hot. When we get the top of the hill, we are very tired and sweat. But we are very exciting. I see the scenery on the top of the hill. I remember a poem” I must accent the mountain's crest, It dwarfs all peaks under feet\". The feeling is very good.

May 19 Wednesday Rainy There's an old saying,” Guilin has the best scenery in the world, and the landscape in Yangshuo only tops Guilin\". West Street is the most prosperous district in Yangshuo. It is said that approximately100, 000 foreigners come here on their travels or to attend advanced studies each year. Visitors are attracted to West Street by foreigners for its simple style and courtyard-like settings. There is a saying about West Street that” half is village while the other half is stores\". West Street also called\". Foreigners' Street”. When I walk along the street, I fell very fantastic and wonderful. Because the country residential buildings house all sorts of western cars, cafés and restaurants, Chinese art shops and clothes stall. There are many kinds of things; I don't know what I will buy. The elderly Chinese woman can speak fluent English with the foreign visitors. The West Street in the evening is prosperous, hip-pop or funk music begins from all kinds of clubs or bars. I'm fond of this feelings and I'm very enjoyable and excited. I forget all my sadness in the occasion. West Street is amazing. 5

May 19 Thursday Sun The last day, we get back to Guilin by bus. Walking along the street, we follow the guide to Elephant Trunk Hill. Elephant Trunk Hill, originally called Li Hill or Yi Hill, is located at the west bank of the southeast Li River. It gets its name because it looks like a huge elephant dig its trunk into the river. The hill is 55 meters high, 108 meters long, 100 meters wide and has an elevation of 200 meters above sea level. The Elephant Hill is regarded as the symbol of Guilin City. There is an old story of the Elephant Trunk Hill. It is said that the elephant was left by the immortal lord of the sky. The elephant was like Guilin so much that he stayed to help the city’s people to recover from his exhaustion. However, the elephant was punished because of deciding not to return to his master. One day, while drinking from the river, he was killed and turned into stone, frozen forever in the place he chose to call home. The body of the elephant is a big cave called Water Moon Cave, below which is beefs pool that connects with the Li-River and on which pleasure boats can cruise when water is abundant. It's said that the famed Guilin wines are made from here the quality of the good water. The cave looks like a full moon floating on the surface of the water with the moonlight reflected on the caves. I feel like a dreamland. Then, we go to the Walk Street and it's not very propriety. I think the Walk Street in Changsha is much better than it. So, it is my opinion.

实习总结(Summary of Practice)

We went Yangshuo to practice on may. Our major mission was to practice our spoken English. It provided a good opportunity for us to practice our spoken English in Yangshuo. While I enjoyed the beautiful scenery, I learnt a lot of things which couldn't learn in school. During the practice in Yangshuo, I knew that we should learn in the practice and practice in the study. West Street in the evening was boisterous. Here was the place which a blend of the classic and contemporary. The gorgeous lamplight, fashionable bars and characteristic of national shops. We enjoyed the scenery of West Street and looked for foreigners to talk with. At the beginning, we were embarrassed, we were afraid to disturb their shopping. But as the increasing of communications, we found that they were very friendly and enthusiastic. They were willing to communicate with us. From their communication, we knew many different countries had their different cultures. Although our major was English, when we talked with then, many things we didn't know how to express. At last, we only expressed with our bodies instead of the words. I recognized that my oral English and theirs have a big disparity. Therefore, as an English major student, we would be engaged in English work in the future. So the oral was very important. In my study, I should emphasize my oral English and listening. I should enlarge my vocabulary, improve my reading skills and improve my English proficiency. I should study hard to lay a basis for adapting the society in the future. 15
